(NIDAHASA News) The Editor of the "Lanka" controversial Sinhala weekly, Chandana Sirimalwatte who was in CID custody has been discharged, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva says.

The Magistrate of Gangodawila Courts today ordered the unconditional release of Sirimalwatte who was held in custody for eighteen days without any charges being brought against him.

The editor was held under the draconian ER act by the CID. However CID was unable to present any charges against him.

Sirimalwatte was arrested by the CID on January 29th. The newspaper was also closed down a day after the editor was arrested, but after a court order the paper resumed work three days later.
