Sarath Fonseka Goes to Court over Vote

(NIDAHASA News) Former Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka, now in military custody, has filed a petition on Supreme Court against what he alleges is vote rigging in presidential poll

"We have filed the election petition on behalf of General Fonseka today," Ashoka Samararathne, an attorney representing Fonseka, told Reuters.

In the petition Fonseka cited the President and 20 others as well as the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka, lawyers of the former army head say.

He cited Mahinda Rajapaksa and other 21 candidates including Sarath Kongahage and Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake as well as two senior lawyers namely Presidents Counsel Razik Zarook and kalinga Indatissa besides Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe and Wimal Weerawansa as Respondents.

"We are presenting a 40-page complaint to the Supreme Court on bribery, corruption, the use of undue influence and vote rigging at the election," lawyer Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told AFP.

In the petition, Fonseka asking the Court to order a scrutiny of all the ballots cast at the said election to be carried out by Commissioner of Elections and his staff in his presence and in the presence of other 21 candidates or their authorized representatives.
