General Sarath Fonseka
(NIDAHASA News) A three-judge bench of Sri Lanka Supreme Court on Friday granted lawyers of General Sarath Fonseka permission to proceed on a Fundamental Rights case against arresting of Fonseka.

The court ordered the state to file objections within a month and said it would consider providing interim relief to Fonseka on February 23.

“The main reason for abducting Gen. Sarath Fonseka is to prevent the election petition he is to file against the results of the presidential election. The government is keen to prevent the petition being filed as there is evidence that the government had violated election law. The government is jittery regarding this." Somawansa Amarasinghe, leader of Peoples Liberation Front (JVP) said to media.

The court order was given despite strong objections from the Mahinda Rajapaksa
