(NIDAHASA News) Parliament has been dissolved with effect from midnight yesterday (09) Secretary to the President said in a statement.


The gazette notification has been sent to the goverment printer, presidential office said further.


According to goverment printer, General Election is expected to be held on 8th April and nominations will be from February 19th to 26th.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has won the presidential election held on January with more than 58% votes in favour of him. However opposition claims that government has manipulated the election results.

Sarath Fonseka the runner up of the election and one of the main protester agains election results is currently under military arrest.
