(NIDAHASA News) "2010 Presidential Election is not free and fair" the election monitoring network of Intellectuals for Human Rights says.

Misusing of state properties, four murders, the huge propaganda campaign conducted by the state media in favor of one candidate, biasness of the police are among main reasons for their conclusion, Professor Uditha Gunasekara, the chief executive of the organization says.

Preventing people in North and East from casting their votes, violations in the polling booths, and violations against opposition agents in the counting centers also prevents this election from being a free and fair election, the statement says.

elections in Sri Lanka | Posted by: Kris Pullen
There is no doubt the recent elections were neither fair nor free and as long as we have blatant corruption at the top levels, this will not change, irrespective of which party is in power. It is indeed a great pity Sri Lanka has no statesmen left- only self-seeking politicians.
